Wednesday 8th December 2010

PlayBoard are pleased to inform you of the launch of public consultations on both the draft Child Poverty Strategy and the draft implementation plan developed to deliver on the core aims of the Play and Leisure Policy Statment.

On Monday 6th December consulation processes were launched on the Play and Leisure Implentation Plan for Children and Young People and a draft Child Poverty Strategy. To align with purdah restrictions the consultation period for both documents will end on the the 6th February, consulations will run for an 8week period as opposed to the normal 12weeks.

Play and Leisure Implentation Plan
The Play and Leisure Policy Statement was published in 2009 and a cross-sectoral group has been working to develop this implementation plan. It details the actions the Executive will take to promote access to a range of quality play and leisure opportunities which support children's development, their enjoyment and their growth.

Consultation with children and young people is an underpinning principle of the plan, conequently there has been ongoing engagement with stakeholders throughout the development phase. During January PlayBoard will host a further 6 direct engagment events with children and young people, a children's version of the plan has been developed to assist the understanding and engagement.

PlayBoard will also be seeking engagement with our members to assist formulation of our organisational response. We encourage members to also respond in their own right.

Child Povery Strategy
The Child Proverty Strategy sets out the key areas that we believe are crucial in addressing the causes and consequences of child poverty and in meeting their obligations as detailed in the Child Poverty Act 2010. More importantly it sets the stragegic direction for the eradication of child poverty here and is intended to bring focus to the issue and promote a common aim across government. A number of public engagement meetings are scheduled for January we would encourage their members to attend.
