PlayBoard Husting Events

PlayBoard continues to campaign, lobby and raise awareness and develop partnerships aimed at putting PLAY on the agenda of policy makers and resource providers. Whilst it is evident that there is a political appetite at government level to address and resolve childcare concerns we are acutely aware of the need for adaquate long term funding to be awarded to the School Age Childcare Sector.

As part of the campaign PlayBoard hosted a series of Husting Events across the province. Speaking following the regional events Angela Stallard, Senior Advocacy Officer said: "The Husting events were PlayBoard's way of helping our member groups to engage with local MLA's, election candidates and party representatives to raise the issue on the ground in terms of school age childcare and play and leisure. We are deligted at the cross party support received at the hustings and now call on all Political Parties to recognise the key issues raised at the events within Party Manifestos currently being prepared in the run up local elections.

Since PlayBoard's establishment in 1985, we have campaigned, lobbied, raised awareness and developed partnerships aimed at putting play on the agenda of policy makers and resource providers throughout NI. Play is a surprisingly simple solution to what appear to be complex problems! Research has shown that through prioritising play, we can tackle a myriad of social issues in a simple and natural way. Furthermore, the positive developmental aspects of the play opportunities provided within school age childcare providers represented at the hustings, assist children in being strong, competent and better equipped to meet the challenges of everyday life."

PlayBoard's Manifesto asks all of our political parties to pledge support in five key areas and in doing so recognise the cross-cutting benefits of play and its potential to positively impact across social policy agendas. PlayBoard also calls on anyone interested in the development of children's play and support of school age chidcare provision to endorse the Play Manifesto by clicking here
