Events » The Playing Out Project
Friday 23rd September 2011
The Playing Out project was started by Bristol neighbours Alice Ferguson and Amy Rose who began just by playing out in their own street. This project is now steered by a core team of five – all parents – with lots of moral and practical support from other individuals and organisations both nationally and internationally.
What is Playing Out?
Outdoor child-led free play on the street and around the neighbourhood. The term implies a degree of independence and is usually unsupervised or semi-supervised.
The name of this particular Community Interest Company, which aims to promote and encourage a return to street play through resident-led safe, direct action.
An afterschools play session that you can do on your own street, where car access is restricted and residents takes turns to ‘steward’.
PlayBoard are hosting two workshops in Belfast which will be run by Alice and Amy on 21st and 22nd September. The first workshop, aimed at parents/residents will be held on the evening of the 21st September and the second workshop, aimed at practitioners, will be held on the morning of 22nd September.
We invite and encourage you to attend these workshops which will explore ways in which ‘street play’ can be re-introduced into our children’s lives. Please pass this onto to anyone you think it may interest.
Places will be limited, so we would ask that those who would have an interest in attending these workshops contact Lisa at PlayBoard on 028 90803380 or email: lisa.oconnor@playboard.co.uk by Friday 9th September. This is to ensure we have an accurate number of delegates which in turn will dictate the venue.
We look forward to hearing from you very soon.
