Wednesday 25th July 2012

PlayBoard welcomes the new minimum standards from DHSS&PS.  The standards can be found at the following link: http://www.dhsspsni.gov.uk/index/phealth/sqs/sqsd-standards/sqsd-standards-care-standards.htm. Of particular interest is the new standards for Childminding and Day Care for Children Under Age 12.

With regards to appropriate qualifications there is guidance for childminders, full day care and sessional care. Of particular interest is the requirement for the person in charge/manager to have at least a QCF level 5 diploma in an appropriate qualification.

We are delighted to see that playwork is recognised as the "most appropriate qualification" for out of school clubs. There is a requirement for playwork at level 3 for team leaders/supervisors and level 2 playwork for all other staff. Playwork is also given recognition as a relevant qualification for full day care staff at all levels.

The formal launch of the standards will take place in October.
