Advocating Play

As the lead agency for children and young people’s play in Northern Ireland, PlayBoard has a long history of advocating and championing the Child’s Right to Play.

Play and the opportunities for it have changed over recent years. There are many contributing factors for this including the volume of traffic on our roads, the prevalence of car parking space, multiple stories in the media about childhood abduction, child perpetrated crime and anti-social behaviour.

PlayBoard’s Atlantic Philanthropic funded Project has three main outcomes:

Using a practice informs research perspective two Play Development Officers are currently working with local communities in North Belfast aimed at empowering and assisting children, young people and local communities to better articulate their play needs and rights.
