The Playwork Education and Training Council for Northern Ireland
PETC.NI, is a forum for the playwork sector. PETC.NI discuss issues of strategic importance on all aspects of Playwork education, training and qualifications in Northern Ireland.
The primary role of PETC.NI is to ensure a co-ordinated approach in implementing the UK Strategy for Playwork Education, Training and Qualifications.
Playwork strategy
‘Quality Training, Quality Play 2006-2011’ was the first ever Strategy for Playwork Education, Training and Qualifications and was launched and endorsed at the All Party Parliamentary Group on Children’s Play in the House of Commons.
The latest UK play and playwork education and skills strategy for 2011 – 2016 replaces the current UK strategy, ‘Quality Training, Quality Play’.
The key points from the new strategy are:
Vision:
A skilled, qualified and developing play workforce, whose practice is underpinned by the Playwork Principles, who provide high quality, accessible play opportunities for children and young people
Aims:
- Position playwork as a distinct profession within the children and young people’s workforce.
- Support other sectors and the public in their understanding of the value of play and playwork
- Develop and promote a suite of sustainable qualifications that are valued by employers and the workforce, including volunteers
- Encourage delivery and uptake of high quality accessible training, education and professional development opportunities
