School Age Childcare/Play Development Officer

PlayBoard and the National Childhood Network (NCN) are delighted to launch a new collaborative initiative to support the development of School Age Childcare services in the Republic of Ireland. This new initiative, built on previous collaborations between NCN and PlayBoard, has led to NCN’s engagement of Michelle McGee, a member of the PlayBoard’s Peripatetic team.

Michelle has many years of experience working within the school age childcare sector in Northern Ireland in a number of different roles including founder and manager of Kidz Club CIC and assistant manager of Toddle in Day Nursery.

Michelle will be based in the NCN office in Monaghan. In carrying out this role, Michelle will work to provide information and to secure the provision of CPD programmes to meet the clearly identified needs of school age coordinators and educators/practitioners. Michelle will assist NCN in supporting the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration & Youth to raise awareness and understanding of the National Quality Guidelines for school age services as well as working with Children and Young People’s Services Committees and local authorities in the promotion of increased play opportunities for children within communities.

In working together, NCN and PlayBoard aim to raise awareness of the importance of play within school age settings and the community, in turn helping to enhance children and young people’s access to quality play opportunities.
