Newry, Mourne and Down District Council have commissioned PlayBoard to deliver a number of outdoor play sessions across the area. The events have been scheduled and facilitated by the hosting community.
The play sessions are aimed at offering children lots of fun outdoor free-play opportunities within their local community.
Each outdoor play session will offer a range of play opportunities that can be replicated in the home or community at low or no cost. Come along and engage in activities such as parachute games, messy play, skipping, ball games, traditional street games, muddy play, German jumps, arts and crafts and den building.
All play sessions are open access in nature – there are no restrictions on children’s attendance. However, it must be noted that PlayBoard staff are not present in a supervisory capacity. Their role is to animate, create and facilitate an outdoor play experience. Adhering to professional practice guidelines – the PlayWork Principles, children should have access to, and engage in, freely chosen play opportunities. We emphasise the Playworkers’ role is not to instruct, coach or provide one to one supervision.
Parents and carers are encouraged to attend and join in the fun.
Children below 5 years must be accompanied by a parent/carer or responsible adult
Older children and young people who independently play outside are free to come and go as they please (PlayBoard staff have no authority to force children to stay for the duration of the session)
If a child is attending independently, please ensure they carry emergency contact information on their person
If a child or young person decides to leave the site where activities are taking place, PlayBoard staff cannot be responsible for their well-being or safety
Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately. All play sessions will be outdoors with exceptions of extreme weather conditions. Please ensure that your child is wearing sun lotion
Please note that photographs may be taken during sessions.
