The sun has arrived in time for day one of PlayBoard’s summer play sessions, delivered in partnership with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. The sessions will run during the summer holidays throughout the Council area. Each session is free of charge, runs for two hours and is open to children of all ages.

The sessions offer a range of play opportunities that can be replicated at home or in the community at little or no cost. Activities on the day include parachute games, messy play, skipping, ball games, traditional street games, muddy play, German jumps, arts and crafts and den building.

The sessions are co-ordinated by PlayBoard in conjunction with local volunteers and parents/carers are encouraged to attend and join in the fun!

Please note all sessions are now fully booked. You can download our fun activities list for ideas you can try this summer.

Playing is the fundamental way for children to learn, grow and develop. Play helps children grow strong and healthy and can help reduce stress and improve resilience. There should be time made for play every day and it’s important that children have access to a balanced diet of play opportunities and experiences. There are 16 agreed types of play such as rough and tumble play, communication play and dramatic play.

Find out more about play types, how children play throughout childhood and lots of fun ideas to try in our Play for Parents Guide.
