PlayBoard’s recently established Youth@Play team have two reasons to celebrate this week.

Firstly, we have welcomed a new member of staff, Aisling Hosick, to PlayBoard and the Youth@Play team. Aisling has experience of working with children in the childcare sector, and young people working in the Prince’s Trust so is really looking forward to helping to roll out the programme for PlayBoard in her new role as Play Participation Officer.

Secondly, the programme has begun its roll out, beginning with an audit of current play practice in each of the participating clubs. The delivery of the programme has had to adapt to the current climate: the audit is being carried out online via survey monkey, and upcoming training is also likely to be delivered online.

Stay tuned for updates on this exciting new programme which is funded by the Department of Education through the Education Authority, and delivered by the team in PlayBoard which also includes Peter McCartney, Training Coordinator and Maeve McLaughlin, Play Participation Officer.

The Youth@Play programme builds on the capacity of youth workers to facilitate play in youth centres for the younger members who attend. The programme will include: 1-1 support and playwork training for workers and young leaders, as well as building a bank of resources to promote a play enriched environment for the children and young people who attend. The programme pilot will deliver to youth settings in Belfast, Armagh/Craigavon, and Banbridge.
