Inviting new members to join play community

The International Play Association (IPA) is a global organisation dedicated to protecting, preserving, and promoting the child’s right to play. As part of this worldwide movement, the Northern Ireland Branch works to champion high‑quality play opportunities for all children and young people across our communities. At a time when children’s lives are increasingly structured, pressured, and digitally mediated, IPA NI’s mission feels more important than ever. Play is not a luxury, it is a fundamental right, a vital part of healthy development, and a cornerstone of vibrant, inclusive communities.

A key strength of IPA Northern Ireland is the close working relationship with PlayBoard, combining global advocacy with local expertise, ensuring that the work is grounded in evidence, best practice, and the lived experiences of children and families here. Together, IPA NI and PlayBoard amplify the message that play must be protected and prioritised across policy, education, planning, and community life.

The IPA Northern Ireland Branch brings together a diverse network of playworkers, educators, researchers, community leaders, health professionals, parents, and advocates who share a commitment to ensuring that the Child’s Right to Play (UNCRC Art 31) is protected and promoted.  IPA NI’s focus is on disseminating international and local research, sharing emerging insights, and promoting the importance of play through advocacy and awareness‑raising. IPA NI works to highlight the value of play in public discourse, influence policy conversations, and support organisations and individuals who want to strengthen their understanding of children’s play.

Membership of IPA Northern Ireland offers a meaningful way to connect with others who care deeply about children’s well-being.  Members from all backgrounds and levels of experience are welcomed. Whether you are a seasoned play professional, a student beginning your journey, a parent passionate about children’s rights, or a community volunteer who wants to make a difference, your voice matters. Your insights, your enthusiasm, and your commitment can help shape the future of play in Northern Ireland.

Join IPA NI, add your voice, and help strengthen a growing network dedicated to ensuring that every child in Northern Ireland can enjoy their right to play freely, joyfully, and safely.
