Protect play – protect childhood!

Now in its third year, the United Nations International Day of Play takes place on 11 June – a global celebration of the power of play in supporting children’s health, happiness, and development.

Play is every child’s right under Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and is essential for building happy, healthy children. Every child needs the time and space to play.

We are encouraging families, schools, youth groups, and childcare settings to make more time for play on 11 June.

Get involved

  • Schools – join the Play 31 Challenge and allow 31 more minutes for play in the school day.
  • Settings – enjoy an extra-special day of play – let children choose their favourite activities.
  • Create a giant ‘31’ using loose parts (free and found items from home/garden) and natural resources.
  • Spend time in nature – create playful moments and enjoy the outdoors together.
  • Discover our new resource with 31 summer play ideas
  • Help us celebrate the power of play – tag @playboardni and use #InternationalDayOfPlay
  • Have fun!
