Publication Details:

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and their impact on children and young people, the International Play Association – Northern Ireland (IPA NI) shared a message for parents and carers.

The resource highlights the importance of play at any time, but especially during the pandemic as it helps children work through how they feel about things; find out about things; develop friendships; and have fun.

The key message for parents is to give their children some CPR:

  • C is for cool – try to be cool about children playing
  • P is for permission – permission to make a noise, make a mess, use props, get dirty, be silly, and be bored
  • R is for resources – the things lying around that can be used for play. Resources doesn’t mean expensive play equipment, but ‘loose parts’ that fuel imagination and creativity such as boxes, kitchen roll tubes, chalk etc.
